New Album from Prince’s Vault

The Prince Estate has announced plans to release yet another album of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1981 and 1991.

The record, titled Originals, will soon be available June 7 solely on Tidal’s Hi-Fi subscription level, with bodily copies, downloads and broader streaming solutions after on June 21.

It includes 15 demonstration versions of tunes Prince composed and recorded for different musicians, such as Sheila E., The Time and Kenny Rogers. Fourteen of these tracks haven’t been published before.

A number of the songs were big hits for the bands at that moment. “Manic Monday,” that Prince initially composed for his protégé woman group Apollonia 6, finally appeared The Bangles’ 1986 record Different Lighting and spent a few weeks near the surface of the pop charts. Originals follows a year’s Piano plus a Microphone 1983, a set of romantic home records by Prince.

This autumn, the Prince property and Random House will even launch a new memoir from the artist titled The gorgeous Ones. It’s due out Oct. 29 and will consist of snippets of Prince’s handwritten lyrics, first scrapbooks and never-before-seen pictures.
